At MAXPRO® Technologies, we offer a variety of Oxygen Gas Booster Packages. Many applications rely on oxygen gas boosters, from sport diving and aviation oxygen to gas scavenging and rescue breathing. Here we’ll review what Oxygen Gas Booster Packages are, how these systems work, their potential industry applications, and the advantages of turning to MAXPRO® for your oxygen gas booster needs.
What Is an Oxygen Gas Booster Package?
Our Oxygen Gas Booster Packages can supply gas while eliminating the cost of returning partial cylinders. They serve as a reliable alternative option to high-pressure stationary compressors, making them compatible with a wide range of applications.
Apart from oxygen, argon, and nitrogen, our gas boosters can compress natural gas, nitrous oxide, ethylene, neon, carbon monoxide, and carbon dioxide, among others.
How Does an Oxygen Gas Booster System Work?
Oxygen gas boosters are highly durable and feature stainless steel components that are cleaned for oxygen service. They provide contaminant-free operation with complete isolation and separation occurring between the oxygen sections and the air drive.
These systems only require a 70 psi shop air source in lieu of electrical power for increased energy savings. They also feature an automatic shut-off at a designated outlet pressure when used unsupervised. To provide additional safety, the equipment features safety relief devices and pressure gauges on the air and gas sides of the system.
Additionally, the equipment includes a manual vent valve that allows for the venting of gas pressure before outlet line disconnection. Operators can manually stop the booster through the use of the shut-off ball valve and drive air filter.
The system includes one 1/2″ FNPT air drive connection and two 1/4″ FNPT connections for the inlet and outlet. We deliver these systems with all components fully mounted and tested before shipping.
How Do They Work?
Air-driven gas boosters typically contain a cylinder and piston – the cylinder is designed to withstand varying operating pressures and the piston is driven back and forth within the cylinder to control pressure. The cylinder head has supply and discharge ports, which are connected to either discharge hoses or pipes, as well as non-return valves that direct gas flow in one direction. When the booster is not working, the piston will not move, meaning gas can flow from the inlet hose and valve to fill the space between the cylinder head and piston.
When the outlet hose has low pressure, gas flows out to the hose-connected component. The flow stops when the system achieves pressure equalization, which depends on the valves’ opening pressures. Once the flow stops, the booster begins to work, and the space between the cylinder head and piston crown grows as the piston moves back and forth along the cylinder.
When the return cycle takes place, the space between the piston crown and cylinder head shrinks until there is enough pressure to open the outlet valve and outlet line. When this happens, gas travels out of the cylinder through the outlet valve and port.
Gas compression always causes increased temperatures. For this reason, oxygen gas boosters have water jackets or external fins for cooling. To reduce the risk of fire caused by compressed oxygen, gas boosters are constructed with oxygen-compatible materials.
